How to wear a skull cap: the complete guide

The skull cap is the short, fitted beanie that hugs the shape of your head. No cuff, no pom-pom, no extra volume: a simple piece that structures a whole outfit. You still need to know how to wear it. Here's our 4-step guide, with photos.

Skull cap vs classic beanie: what's the difference?

A classic beanie is longer, often cuffed, and leaves volume on top of the head. The skull cap is shorter and sits close to the head.

The result: a cleaner, sportier silhouette that pairs perfectly with streetwear, football jerseys and oversized fits.

Step 1

Placement on the forehead

The basic rule: wear your skull cap just above your eyebrows, or one or two fingers higher. Too low, it hides your eyes and crushes your face. Too high, it slides back and loses its whole point.

  • Classic look: the edge two fingers above the eyebrows, straight and symmetrical.
  • Street look: the edge pulled down just above the eyebrows.

Step 2

Ears in or out?

Both work. Ears covered is the most common way, especially in winter: the skull cap stays in place and keeps you warm.

Ears out, the beanie sits a little further back on the head for a more relaxed style, ideal when it's less cold.

Step 3

Keep the logo centred

On a PRESTIGE skull cap, the double logo shows at the front and the back. Take two seconds to centre it on your forehead: a crooked logo instantly looks less clean.

The back logo then naturally sits in the middle of your neck.

Step 4

Adjust and pull back

The skull cap is made to be fitted. Hold it with both hands and pull it back so it hugs your head without folds on top.

If you prefer a less strict look, leave a little room at the top, without turning your skull cap into a classic beanie.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wearing it crooked by accident: check the symmetry in the mirror.
  • Pulling it down to your eyes: your face disappears and the look loses sharpness.
  • Stacking statement pieces: a printed skull cap (camo, leopard, thermal) goes with a simpler outfit, like here with a plain white tee.
  • Forgetting care: a stretched beanie ruins the fit. Wash it cold and skip the dryer.
